Author Visits

It would be an honor to visit your school or library! In addition to being an author-illustrator, I’m also an elementary educator. I love talking with kids and encouraging them to share their stories whether through drawing, writing or both!

Please check out my program options and the visit form below. If you have something else in mind, don’t hesitate to reach out, let’s chat! We can discuss reduced fees for a commitment to a number of book sales or other creative alternatives. And if your school is unable to fund a visit, please fill out the form below, and let’s see what we can work out.

I ask that every school purchase a minimum of 3 books through your local independent bookstore.

Denver School Visit

In-Person Programs

  • Let’s read In The Groves! Afterwards we’ll have a lively Q&A, we’ll talk about the picture book process, the inspiration behind the story, and some of the important themes: belonging, connecting with cultural identity, and the importance of oral storytelling. We’ll end with an engaging activity (or two if time permits).

  • What does it take to become an illustrator? I’ll share my journey and my process from sketching through revisions to a finished book. We’ll take a look at my studio and my materials through a presentation and we’ll all participate in a live interactive drawing demo.

  • Would you like to create your own picture book? In this 3 series program we will! Session 1: Read aloud, discuss the elements of a story, followed by Q&A. Session 2: Brainstorm and learn how to mine your experience for inspiration for our own story. Sketch and draft. Session 3: Work on finalizing our books, and sharing our stories with the class.
